What times of day can we speak to a live person at Rooney Landscape?
In this age of instant emails, texting, and mobile phones we understand how important it is to speak to a live person. It can be maddening to call a company and always get voicemail. It can be even more frustrating to always have to leave messages that never get returned. We don’t operate that way.
You will speak to a live person from 8 AM to 7 PM on Monday to Friday during our busiest season March through October. From November through February our hours are 8:30 AM to 5 PM.
What services are included with each weekly mowing?
Mowing, Edging, String Trimming and Cleanup
Do you provide snow plowing and ice treatment services in the Winter?
Yes! Our customers love the fact that we can take care of there snow plowing and ice treatment all winter long. Click here to see what else we do in the winter.
Can I get an estimate over the phone or via email?
No. There are simply too many things that can go wrong with a quote like that and then no one is happy. We only want you to pay the size of your property. We provide fixed pricing per mow based on the size of your property. We don’t expect homeowners to know the size of their property so we will visit your property to properly measure the area to be mowed.
We like to build long term relationships with our clients. We believe that is one of the key reasons we have been in business since 1983. We prefer to meet you in person, so you can ask any specific questions about our company and the services we provide. We will then provide you with a written detailed estimate that explains in Plain English the services we will provide and our NO Surprise Pricing Guarantee.
Mowing companies that will give you a quote without visiting your property are taking a stab in the dark and if they priced it too low will come back ask for more and if they priced it too high you will probably never hear about it.
Do you provide any special discounts or incentives?
Yes! We provide incentives for our customers and the people they refer so that everyone can get a better price.
What other lawn care services do you recommend?
We highly recommend a Spring and a Fall Cleanup and can provide a competitive price for those services. We know for experience that these 2 will help maintain the beauty and health of your lawn.
How many weekly mowings do you provide each year?
27
When does the mowing season begin and when does it end?
We begin in April as soon as the weather breaks and continue through the last week of October.
What areas do you service?
To provide the combination of competitive pricing with consistently outstanding service we limit our service area to Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove and Palatine.
How do we reach someone after hours if we have an issue?
We understand that most people would like to speak to someone immediately if they have an issue with the service. We also recognize that we aren’t perfect and we do occasionally make a mistake. We give our customers 2 ways to reach us after normal business hours:
We provide the mobile number of your maintenance supervisor for emergencies. We provide a special email address for after hour’s service issues. This allows us to address these issues by 10 AM the next day at the latest.
If I have an issue, how quickly can I expect it to be handled?
We admit we aren’t perfect but we pledge to make it right. If you ever have an issue, complaint or you need to report damage – simply call us during our normal business hours or email us after hours. We pledge to address it within 24 hours of receipt.
What if we need to reschedule or cancel a mowing?
You may reschedule or cancel a weekly mowing service as long as you call at least 24 hours in advance. We do not honor same day cancellations.
We have young children and pets, do they have to stay inside?
As a matter of safety, we respectfully request that all children stay inside during our services. All pets should be inside or placed at a kennel on service days. Our crews are careful but we are unable to assume responsibility if your pet or pets somehow escape.
We have a fenced in yard, how can we protect our privacy and still allow you access?
We will provide combination locks FREE of charge so that you can maintain your privacy and we can still have access. This has proven to be the most convenient way to handle this. That way you don’t have to remember to unlock the gate and we don’t have the headache of keeping track of all those keys!
How do you handle playgrounds or other special areas?
Each day our crews are provided with detailed instructions for each property to be serviced. This can include information about pets, children and restrictions on equipment due to slope, security and more.
How do you screen your employees?
We understand that no one wants to talk about this openly but in our industry it is a problem. Services that offer a super low price have to be cutting corners someplace, and too often that’s with their crews. Because there are no regulations on the landscape or lawn service businesses in Illinois they can be picking guys up on the street corner – you may have seen some of these workers hanging around waiting for work.We don’t work that way.
We screen all employees and require I-9 documentation. All crews are in uniform. We have written code of conduct and our crews are sensitive to domestic and security needs.
We maintain crews all year long so we can service your winter needs as well as your warm weather needs.
If it is really hot, can we offer your crews something to drink?
Cold water is always appreciated. We have a strict written policy prohibiting the use of drugs or alcohol by our crews. They won’t accept a cold beer even on the hottest day. Our employees are not allowed to smoke on your property either.
Do you provide any other landscape services?

Can you repair broken walkways or heaving patios?
Yes. We completed over 100 enhancement and repair projects in 2009. Most were done to fix work originally completed by other landscape companies.
Do you provide fertilization, pest treatment and/or tree services?
Yes. We refer this work to several companies that we trust and that we have worked with for long periods of time.
Will your insurance agent provide me with a copy of your Certificate of Insurance?
Yes. Getting the Certificate of Insurance directly from the company’s insurance agent will provide you with assurance that the coverage is current. In addition we believe that all companies providing mowing and other landscape services should adhere to the following guidelines:
- The company is required to maintain statutory Worker’s Compensation insurance.
- The company must carry at least $500,000 Liability insurance per incident
- If the company utilizes sub-contractors – they all must also meet the same insurance requirements.
- All company vehicles must have commercial insurance.
If a company is unable to produce the appropriate insurance documents, do not hire them as you may be responsible for any injuries or other accidents that occur.
Is it important for a company to belong to a professional trade association?
We are members of these organizations because we believe it helps us to maintain high standards and quality service.Hiring a member of these organizations insures that your contractor knows the correct safety procedures; is dedicated to best practices in the industry; has committed to a strict code of business ethics; is fully licensed and insured and will faithfully fulfill every aspect of every contract.
